Don’t make these mistakes during a custody battle

On Behalf of | Aug 22, 2017 | child custody | 0 comments

When it comes to matters of child custody, you need to know exactly what you should and should not be doing.

While you want to fight for your rights, you need to know where to draw the line. If you make a mistake along the way, it could cost you in the long run.

With all that in mind, here are some of the top mistakes to avoid during a custody battle:

  • Getting into trouble with the law. It doesn’t matter why this happens, as it can have a negative impact on your ability to gain custody in the future. You need to keep your nose clean as your case unfolds.
  • Ignoring any temporary custody order. If a temporary order is in place, you need to know exactly what’s expected of you and stick with this (don’t try to make your own rules).
  • Using social media in all the wrong ways. There is nothing wrong with using social media, but you need to use good judgment. This means many things, such as avoiding talking badly about the other parent.

Along with the above, don’t hesitate to keep an open line of communication with the other parent. This is not always easy to do, but it would be in your best interest. It can go a long way in helping you work out your problems outside of the court system.

If you avoid these mistakes, among many others, you will find that it’s much easier to work through a child custody battle. In the end, the only thing that matters is that you are able to remain a big part of your child’s life in the future.
