Social media, divorce and the impact

On Behalf of | Mar 10, 2017 | divorce | 0 comments

In today’s day and age, it’s easier than ever to track a person’s digital paper trail. This is often associated with social media use, such as Twitter and Facebook.

For married couples, access to this type of information often leads to trouble. For example, one person may find that another has been cheating.

Unfortunately, social media has lead to the divorce of many couples. While it’s a shame that the relationship had to end this way, for the victim, it’s often a welcome relief.

Proof of cheating can go a long way in helping the person who has been cheated on. Although every divorce case is different, here are a couple things to consider:

— It makes it easier for one spouse to argue that the other individual is responsible for the divorce.

— In many cases, cheating is taken into consideration by the court when assessing spousal support; however, fault does not come into play when dividing property.

As unfortunate as it may be, many people find out that their spouse is cheating on them by digging around on social media sites. Sometimes it takes a bit of detective work, but in the end it’s clear as to what is going on.

If you find yourself in this position, collect as much information as you can as the divorce process moves forward. You never know which details will work in your favor.

It’s never easy to learn that your spouse is cheating on you. It’s never easy to file for divorce. However, some of the information you collect could benefit you.
